Open cost data
Our planning cost ranges are published as open data. Anyone can read them, check them against the federal sources, and quote them with attribution.
What is in the dataset
- 7 project types. Roof Replacement, HVAC Replacement, Bathroom Remodel, Kitchen Remodel, Interior Painting, Exterior Painting, Window Replacement.
- Three finish levels each. Basic, mid-range, and high-end, with a low, most likely, and high total plus the cost per unit.
- State adjusted figures. Florida and Texas, each with the published labor factor applied to the national benchmark.
- Sources and model version. Every response names the federal datasets behind the numbers and the model version that produced them.

What the numbers are not
- They are planning ranges from a model, not contractor quotes or bids.
- State figures are statewide. We publish no city level multipliers because we have no defensible published source for them.
- The dataset contains no company data, no reviews, and no ratings. Company listings live on the site as recorded contact facts only.
Sources
- US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Employment and Wage StatisticsMay 2025 estimates. Statewide and national mean hourly wages for the construction occupations that do each project, employment weighted by occupation.
- US Census Bureau, 2022 Economic Census, construction sector basic statistics2022 reference year. Labor share of contractor receipts by trade, computed as annual payroll plus benefits divided by total receipts.
